When I worked on Wall Street, the phrase “THERE’S NOT ENOUGH TIME!” might as well have been tattooed on my forehead.

Time was my enemy!

If only I could somehow work 1,000 hours a week… then I’d REALLY get the results I wanted!  I didn’t say it out loud, but that was my secret fantasy.

So I bragged to anyone who would listen about how I worked 80 and 90 hour weeks, because when you think MORE TIME is the answer, then the only strategy becomes:

Get more time by WORKING MORE and WORKING HARDER.

Right?

But the problem was that it wasn’t working. And it’s probably not working for you either.  I gained 70+ pounds.  My chronic disease became unmanageable.  I had to break off an engagement.

I was surrounded by evidence that my “work more to get more time” strategy was actually failing.

What I didn’t realize at the time is that studies show that when you work more than 40 hours a week for more than 2 months, your measured productivity slows down to match the 40 hour a week level.

So it turns out, all those extra hours and losing sleep wasn’t increasing my productivity one bit, but it was destroying everything else in my life!

The higher truth is that it’s not about managing your time, it’s about managing your ENERGY.

With the right energy you can do more work in an hour than you can in a whole day!

I realized I had to replace my limiting belief that “there’s not enough time” with something more powerful.  Something that could get me out of the hole I was in.

Today, whenever I find myself saying, “God, there’s not enough time!, I use something I call the Right Action Principle.

In this week’s video, I explain what the Right Action Principle is and how to use it starting today (5 min video)

If you’re sick of feeling like a slave to time, then check out this video and start using the Right Action Principle to get back in control.

Leave me a comment with your strategies for managing your energy in the comments!

This is a big topic, so Carey and I will be doing a Facebook Live to expound further on our philosophy of time management.  We’ll also be talking about how to replace limiting mindsets with empowering mindsets. Click here to join us at 10:30am PST/1:30pm EST on Wednesday(click to get sent a Facebook reminder when we go live).
